First edition; the author was an erudite archeologist, chronicler of the Crown, and a Spanish writer. He was appointed by the King to narrate travel chronicles. The work describes the Spanish 1871 scientific expedition to the Middle East including Greece, Lebanon, Rhodes and Cyprus (a long chapter is devoted to the visit and the island’s antiquities). Despite its considerable size, erudition and extension, it is a very little known book to non-Spanish bibliography. It describes the countries visited from an historical, geographic, archeological, and ethnographic point of view.
