The Examen Marítimo, the first edition of which is from 1771, is a treatise of mechanics applied to navigation and is, without doubt, the most important work of the author. It was translated into English, French, and Italian. It is a treatise on mechanics supported by rigorous mathematics, that was adopted as a textbook in the majority of European countries, among them France and England. The author, Jorge Juan, was the Spanish scientist of the 18th century who was most concerned with bringing to Spain the mathematical advances that were being made in other countries and one of the greatest mariners and mathematicians in Spain in the 18th century; European scientists distinguished him with the nickname of “The Spanish Savant”. This second edition was notably augmented by Gabriel Ciscar y Ciscar, a prestigious officer of the Spanish navy, considered also as “the leading Spanish mathematician of his time”. This edition augmented by Ciscar is NOTABLY MORE RARE THAN THE FIRST EDITION of 1771, and a much finer imprint since it was ordered printed by the Imprenta Real on excellent paper and with stupendous engravings; on OCLC we only locate 23 copies of the first edition and ONLY ONE COPY IN THE USA of this edition in the Harry Ransom Center of the University of Texas. El Examen marítimo, cuya primera edición es de 1771, es un tratado de mecánica aplicada a la navegación, y es sin duda la obra más importante de su autor. Fue traducida al inglés, francés e italiano. Es un tratado de mecánica sustentado por un gran rigor matemático, que se adoptó como libro de texto en la mayoría de países europeos, entre ellos Francia e Inglaterra. Su autor, Jorge Juan, fue el científico español, del siglo XVIII, que más se preocupó en traer a España los avances matemáticos que se iban produciendo en el extranjero y uno de los más grandes marinos y geómetras de la España del siglo XVIII; los científicos europeos lo distinguieron con el sobrenombre del "sabio español". Esta segunda edición fue notablemente ampliada por Gabriel Ciscar y Ciscar, prestigioso marino de guerra español, considerado también “el primer matemático español de su época”. Esta edición ampliada por Ciscar es NOTABLEMENTE MAS RARA QUE LA PRIMERA EDICIÓN de 1771, y mucho mejor impresa ya que fue mandada a imprimir por la Imprenta Real en excelente papel y con estupendos grabados; en OCLC localizamos 13 ejemplares de la primera edición Y SOLAMENTE 1 EJEMPLAR EN USA de esta edición, en el Harry Ranson Center de la Universidad de Texas.
