CLYDE HALISI & JAMES MTUME, EDITORS THE QUOTABLE KARENGALos Angeles, US., 1967, First Edition. Stapled Pictorial Wrappers, 8vo, 32pp, no illustrations. Dr. Maulana Ron Karenga (born Ronald McKinley Everett) was the founder of the Los Angeles based sixties Black Nationalist movement US - sometimes referred to as "United Slaves". US frequently operated in opposition to their rivals, the more widespread Black Panther Party, culminating in a deadly gun battle between the two on the UCLA campus in 1969. Not long after, Karenga and two associates were tried and convicted for torturing two US members, for which he served five years in prison. Upon his release, Dr. Karenga revived the dormant US, has since taught studies in Black History and Culture, and is credited with developing the holiday Kwanzaa. Published by US at the height of his influence and notoriety, this slender book is divided into chapters containing Karenga's thoughts on "Black Cultural Nationalism", "Revolution", "Politics", "House System", "Art", "Religion", and "Liberals". A most presentable copy of this uncommon document of radical sixties west coast thought showing some mild soiling, spotting and discoloration to its covers.. Very Good -.
