Wrinkled, with tears in blank margins, image area very good. Signed in stone under title: "Yours very Truly, T.H. Safford, Jr." with pencilled inscription, "Born January 6, 1836." Portrait of the 10-year old mathematical prodigy & lightning calculator TRUMAN HENRY SAFFORD of Vermont who amazed experts with his ability to perform complex calculations instantaneously. Safford later became a noted American astronomer.
