Herron, complaining that he "is illegally restrained in his liberty by one Uriah Anderson" who attempted to forceably enlist him in the 19th Battalion, Texas State Troops, under command of Major Joseph B. Johnson, stating that he "was legally drafted in Ellis County...under the martial law of said state." Herron protests he was regularly mustered into the service of the Confederate States of America, for which he furnished a substitute. Signed by Herron & by Wm. D. Dillon, attorney for petitioner.
