Romantic tale about the discovery of gold near a Mexican Indian village and the evil wrought by the lust for riches, imparted to the Indians by the Spanish padre and other Spaniards. The publisher's foreword notes "The two stories contained in this volume are the productions of writers already favorably known to the public." OCLC attributes authorship of this title to Anne Bowman and dates it 1847. Another edition was published under the variant title of _The Golden Sands of Mexico_ by Lindsay and Blakiston in 1850.
