HISTORY OF THE LATE WAR IN THE WESTERN COUNTRY, COMPRISING A FULL ACCOUNT OF ALL THE TRANSACTIONS IN THAT QUARTER, FROM COMMENCEMENT OF HOSTILITIES AT TIPPECANOE, TO THE TERMINATION OF THE CONTEST AT NEW ORLEANS ON THE RETURN OF PEACE. Lexington: Published by Worsley & Smith, 1816. First edition. viii, 534, 2 pp. 8vo.Contemporary calf, worn, rubbed and scuffed, and as usual text is foxed, in a cloth slipcase, otherwise a very good copy. One of the most important sources for the war in the West. The author one of the first Kentuckians to join the North-West army, sought and obtained a large amount of material regarding the Indian Wars of the western frontier from the actors engaged in them. The work is based in large part upon his own journal and material supplied by two of his most able commanders, William Henry Harrison, and Governor Shelby, of Kentucky. McAfee's narrative is of great historical value, and contains much material that later histories either do not possess or simply copy from his work. AMERICAN IMPRINTS 38117. FIELD 964. HOWES M 9.
