(1863). 8 pp. Self-wraps. _and_ OPINIONS OF A MAN WHO WISHES TO BE GOVERNOR OF PENNSYLVANIA. n.p., n.d. (1863). 7 pp. Wraps. Both with staining to top corner and light chipping, else good. Two tracts against Woodward in his unsuccessful campaign as Democratic candidate for Governor of Pennsylvania during the Civil War in 1863. Woodward was a justice of the state Supreme Court, after having been appointed to the U. S. Supreme Court by Pres. Polk in 1845, but not confirmed by Senate. In the first tract, earlier resolutions by Woodward against foreign emigrants are brought to light, which he now denies because he needs the foreign vote. The second tract consists of extracts from a strongly pro-slavery speech delivered by Woodward in 1860. Offered for US$ 85.00 by: Almagre Books - Book number: 16882 | |||
