T.e.g. Large 4to. Fine copy. Biography of mining and oil entrepreneur: Colorado in the 1870s, then Nevada and New Mexico, later land speculation in Los Angeles. In 1890s Canfield went into Mexican oil. EBERSTADT 126: 455: "A large part of the volume comprises extensive quotations from the original letters. Canfield started his long mining career in 1869 at Boulder at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, years before the neighboring boom at Leadville. His letters describe the Colorado mines and conditions and, particularly the Ward Mining District...." HOWES W 384: "Relates largely to his mining experiences in Colorado and Nevada."
