MARK TWAIN. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Tom Sawyer's Comrade).
New York:, Charles L. Webster,, 1985., First American edition. . In the uncommon original decorated blue cloth. 174 illustrations by E. W. Kemble. Kevin MacDonnell has convincingly demonstrated that it is the three first issue points on pages 13, 57, and 143, respectively, that distinguish the printing plates of the first printing of 30,000 from later printings in the cloth editions. This copy has all three first printing points. This copy has the following BAL issue points: copyright 1984 and p. 283, Uncle Silas, both canceled as with all cloth; "L." on p. 143; oversize "5" page 155; ; no signature mark on p. 161; tablecloth under bust visible and with the imprint of the Heliotype Printing Co. Overall a not quite very good copy with the edges and tips worn, spine darkened; the crown and tail frayed, with loss of as much as a 1/3 inch. Early name in ink, two small stains the size of dimes to tissue guard, a number of pages turned. Some soiling to the interior, but at most traces of foxing. Still, a sound, solid, and unrestored copy of the great American novel. Of the 30,000 printed only about 1 in 20 were bound in blue cloth (to match Tom Sawyer). .
