In January 1950, the author, a botanical explorer, accompanied by his wife, left the Tockali Tea Research Station in Upper Assam for a road trip through the Lohit Valley. The two were in Rima on August 15, 1950 at the time of the earthquake. In this eyewitness account, the only available on-the-spot account, the author describes his experience and the local effects of the earthquake.
