Kleiweg de Zwaan studied medicine in Leiden, then in Amsterdam and then for some time in Berlin and Paris. He was the first professor of anthropology in the Netherlands and did extensive survey in the Dutch East Indies. This study contains ethnological and historical information about the medicine of the Chinese and Japanese, with a special focus on Dutch influences.
