Edited by Milo Milton Quaife. This is one of the earliest narratives of the fur-trade. Gen. James describes his experiences on the upper Missouri in 1809, and an expedition to Santa Fe in 1821. Gen. James' secretary had destroyed nearly all of the copies of the manuscript, and the first copy to be discovered was found in the collection of the Missouri Historical Society in c. 1909. The Society issued the first edition in 1916.. This volume is in perfect, pristine condition; unmarked, unread, tight, square, and clean. AS NEW. The Lakeside Classics Series. Vol. 51.
