Eight quarto (7-1/2" x 11") volumes bound in full green morocco leather by Bickers & Son with triple gilt-ruled covers with gilt fleur-de-lys corner decorations, gilt-decorated spines with contrasting morocco spine labels, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Illustrated with 131 full-page chromolithograph plates as well as numerous full-page black-and-white plates and text engravings illustrating all facets of life in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Text in French. Each volume with the bookplate of Lovis Childs Madeira, designed by Walter M. Aikman, on the front pastedown. Occasional spot of foxing but generally clean and bright; minor scratches and wear to bindings, spine labels rather dry. Near Fine set of these beautifully illustrated and bound books .
