Massive work (weighing 10 lbs., unpackaged) encompassing in-depth biographical sketches of prominent families in Dutchess County, many accompanied by photographs. Dutchess County "is located in Eastern New York State, between the Hudson River on its west and the New York-Connecticut border on its east, about halfway between the cities of Albany and New York..." (Wkpda.) The book is fascinating not only for its genealogical value to many descendants of the families discussed therein, All edges gilt. Beautiful, tooled, full leatherbound, (probably Morocco) with engraved designs at corners and elaborate gilt graphic in center of front board. Beveled edges, elegant silk gold-on-black endpapers. All edges gilt. The book bears the original owner's signature on the front free endpaper, a Miss Carol E. Haviland. One of the biographies within mentions Ms. Haviland as one of the children of Barclay Haviland. In completely original full-leather morocco finish binding, with gilt and blind embossing on front board, blind embossing on rear board. Edges of beveled boards worn, leather is bright. 950 pp. Beers & Company. Quite scarce., VERY GOOD.
