A Pair of Stevengraphs - Beethoven and Mozart
S. l. S. n. 1900. First Edition. Two stevengraphs, n. d. (ca 1900); 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 and 9 x 5 1/2; woven silk, depicting a portrait of the composer, an ornate border, and the words in the upper margin, respectively: "Fidelio Symphonien, 1770-1827" and "Don Juan Zauberflote, 1756-1791;" a bit of fraying to top and bottom edges, else very minor wear; very good to near fine condition. A pair of beautiful stevengraphs, they are somewhat unusual in that they portray composers, rather than the more common sporting events, famous political figures, or scenes and images from expositions. They are also larger than the customary bookmark and postcard format. Stevengraphs were machine-woven, silk pictures, first introduced in 1862 by Thomas Stevens in Coventry, England. Very good .
