| ANON Souvenir Programme: The Twinwood Open Air Concert Sunday, 28th August 1994, with the Glenn Miller Orchestra UK. Bedford, England, Bedford Borough Council. 1994. Soft Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Card covers, 12 pages, b/w photo illustrations. The 1994 concert was held as part of the 50th Anniversary Festival held in Bedford. Glenn Miller's Army Air Force Orchestra actually performed at RAF Twinwood Airfield on Sunday, 27th August, 1944. The concert was for British pilots and crew, with 1,000 people attending. By the summer of 1944 Twinwood Airfield had become an aerial bus-station for the Glenn Miller Band who were all based in and around Bedford. Liberators or B17s regularly flew the Band to US Bases in Ireland, Lancashire, the west of England and Norfolk. It was at Twinwood on December 15th, 1944, that Miller managed to secure a seat on a small single-engined American UC64 Norseman headed for Paris. The plane departed at 1.55 pm. Major Alton Glenn Miller was never to be seen again. The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was formed in 1988 and was the only orchestra outside the United States which had permission to play so many of the arrangments and original scores of Glenn Miller himself.
