HONORE DE BALZAC  Histoire Des Treize
Paris, Michel Levy Freres. 1871. Three-Quarter Leather, 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. This is part of the "Scenes from Parisian Life" ("Scenes de la vie parisienne"). First edition, in French, of the three stories published together (they were written between 1833 and 1835). These are the stories of Ferragus, La Duchesse de Langeais and La Fille aux Yeux d'Or. They were stories that were circulating in Paris during Napoleon's time. Balzac has dedicated some of these stories to Frantz Listz and Delacroix. Lovely three-quarter red leather, with rest in marbled boards and free endpapers being marbled too. Gilt decoration and lettering on spine. Slight rubbing to edges. No marking inside; a very clean tight copy. Very Good.

Paris, Mequignon Junior, Libraire. 1817. Full-Leather, 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Antoine Guénée (1717-1803) wrote a number of books critical of Voltaires. These two volumes are Letters of Certain Jews to Mr. de Voltaires with comments on his works. The texts are dedicated to the King. This is the ninth edition which has been reviewed and enlarged by the author to include tables and notes relating in particular to the works of Voltaire. The set is beautifully bound in full leather, with gilt decoration on the spine and decoration on the cover and marbled edges. The set is in very good condition, tightly bound in original binding, and the second volume has a light surface tear along half of the edge and the spine is consequently loose there. Very Good.

Together with Russian colleagues (including Fedorov), he created a drifting polar station. They drifted during 274 days. Paris, Les Editions J. Susse. 1945. Half-Leather, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Ill.: L. Loge and Chas Bore. The author describes his trip to the Spitzberg in early 1940's. He fell in love with the region and its people and gives great detail of their way of life and the fauna and flora. The book is illustrated by 42 line illustrations and 2 maps of the region by L. Loge and 40 photographs taken by the author. The cover is illustrated by Chas Bore. This edition has been bound in half -leather by the publisher, with gilt lettering and decoration and marbled covers. Page 43 has a small tear (but no loss). This is a very good copy of this book which,as far as we are aware, has not been translated into English. No previous owner name or other marking. Very Good.
