New York & London: Harcourt Brace & Company / G. Bell and Sons, [1934, c 1921) Early printing. A classic book on chess, by grand master who was World Champion from 1921 to 1926. In his new introduction, dated in 1934, he discusses attention give to the Hypermodern Theory, and basically says that this theory does not affect the fundamentals: this book is as good now as it was 13 years ago. It will be as good a hundred years from now. Frontispiece of Capablance, illustrated with diagrams of the positions. 246 pp. Near fine in red cloth with gilt lettering on spine - a straight, tight and clean copy, no dj.

Many diagrams of chess positions in addition to the photographs. Includes a general index and an index to pictures, a summary of the scores and a survey of openings. 329 pp. Ex-library (reference section), but otherwise very good condition: tight and clean in blue cloth covers with gilt lettering on the spine. While this has been reprinting in trade paperback, it is uncommon in the original hardcover first edition.
