One page has a crease, otherwise the contents are Fine. Each of the lost submarines is covered with pictures, text and a roster of the crew. Frontis. portrait with tissue guard in each volume, profusely illustrated with engravings, photos, maps, etc.; illustrations are listed. 10 3/8 x 7 1/2. Bright red cloth with vignette and stamped decoration on front cover with a medal stamped in black (Victoria Cross?). Spine is decorated with gilt figure and background for black title. Former owner's signature in each book (dated 1899, Newfoundland); Books a bit shaken, corners worn and some wear to spine ends,. Spines are uniformally sun-faded; pages are age toned, more toward the margins. A page of one table of contents is disbound but present. Overall, an attractively bound set of very important reference books in Very Good Condition. One volume covers 1745 to 1825 (includes battles of the American Revolution) another from 1827 to 1874 and the third from 1875 to 1896 and appears to include every battle that Britain was involved in during that time. Hardbound in original red cloth with gilt decoration and titles on the front covers of each volume and gilt titling on the spine. Spines are dulled, more so on the Map Portfolio, corners bumped and slight soiling, else good and the contents are bright and very good. An important World War I history. This is an ex-lib from the Sutro Library with a book plate on front paste down and a stamp on title page. Corners bumped and worn and some wear at spine ends. There is a water stain on lower part of covers which does not affect pages. The double page map and title page are detached but present. There is some rippling of the pages and very faint foxing to only a few.
