Full brown, blind-stamped leather. five raised bands on the spine with two lighter brown panels and gilt-stamped title.Marbled end papers. Leather shell rubbed along edges, a small piece of spine cover is missing (a triangular piece about 1/2"). Front cover of vol. I almost detached and others are cracked. Despite the defects, still a nice, little leather bound set of Longfellow. Each volume has the following inscription on the front, free end paper: A Christmas Gift for my Mother, 1857. Theodore." Full brown leather, with shiny leather spine label with gilt-stamped title. There is a thin gold band around the cover.4 raised bands on the spine. Marbled end papers and edges. Some edge wear and scuffing. The spine label is partially gone including the last "t" in Scott's name. The pages are slightly age-toned and there is minor foxing. There is slight cracking along the front joint, but the book is tight. Illustrated with engravings. 5 7.8 x 3 7/8. Hardbound in original brown calf. Gilt-stamped decorations and title on the spine. Shelfwear and some light crackling on the spine. There are pencilled underlines and margin marks which are explained by an inscription on the front paste down as follows: "This book belonged to Elizabeth Cove who died in the year 1913 aged 88 years. The markings are hers & the passages she marked she often quoted." there is also a former hand-written name on back paste down dated 1852. Overall, a nice little book.
