| MASSINGER, PHILIP, The Plays of Philip Massinger in Four Volumes with Notes Critical and Explanatory by W. Gifford, Esq. London:, Printed by W. Bulmer and Co., for G. and W. Nicol, et. al., 1805. Frontis. portrait of Massinger in Vol. I. Bound in 3/4 red Morocco over marbled boards. Leather is delineated from marbled boards by bands of gold. Spine has five raised bands with gold stamped title and volume number in the panels. At foot of spines, stamped in gilt is "London" and date, "1805". Marbled end papers and page edges are also marbled. Occasional light rubs on boards, slight shelf wear, else Very Good or better. It has been said of this edition '"that a more perfect edition of an old poet than this never issued from the press." Lowndes II, 1510. Very scarce to find in this condition. Vol. I contains a long introduction, an "Essay on the Dramatik Writings of Massinger" written by John Ferriar, M.D., and a collection of verses complimenting the author.
