Two of the volumes have splits to front joints part way down, some chipping and wear to head and foot of spines, otherwise, these are bright, tight and a Very Good set of books. Look great on the bookshelf. Bound in full, dark tan leather, with elaborate gilt-stamped decorations on the covers. Four raised bands on the spine with gilt decorations gilt-stamped titling in the spine panels. Peach moire end papers and a bound-in silk book mark. All edges are gilt. Fine condition with a laid-in note about the book and the author, and a certificate of authenticity also signed by Ondaatje (neither of them are attached). "With brilliant language and imagination, The English Patient combines adventure, romance and philosophy for a vision of survival and redemption in spite of overwhelming odds." This book was made into a fine motion picture that won 9 Academy Awards.
