Cover is slightly worn with tiny pieces of leather missing, slight foxings or dust marks inside. Quite scarce in the first edition. This is the bilingual edition of the Cicero's text against Verres, with the Latin Text on the left page and the French translation on the right. Gaius Verres was the governor of Sicily and this was, perhaps, Cicero's most famous case. Full very dark brown calf with stamped fleur-d'lis at the corners of the covers and 4 raised bands on the spine. Gilt-stamped spine title on a red background set off by double gold bands. The date is gilt-stamped on the foot of the spine. Bottom and fore edges are gilt. Very small chip at bottom of spine, corners are bumped, former owner's name and date on front paste down, else this is a Very Good to Near Fine copy of this rare work.
