Illustrated throughout with full and partial page engravings. folio, 16 x 12. Bound in 3/4 brown leather over black cloth-covered boards. Title stamped in gilt on spine. Leather edges are rubbed and powdery where rubbed. The binding is tight. There are a few scattered, small stains, but generally the contents are bright and clean. Overall, Very Good. Oversized, so inquire about shipping cost. "l'Illustration was founded in 1843 and was famed for its lavish use of illustrative material - hence the name. "

The books are in Fine condition and are in the publisher's red heavy, vinyl-type dust jackets that are gilt-titled on the spines. They have slight spine fade, else are Very Good or better. Both are encased in the publisher's slip case. A truly spectacular set of books with historic importance.
