| GREATER LOS ANGELES CITIZENS COMMITTEE Shoreline Development Study: Playa Del Rey to Palos Verdes, a Porion of a Proposed Master Recreation Plan for the Greater Los Angeles Region Greater Los Angeles Citizens Committee. 1944, First Edition. Wraps As Issued. 40-page document that was intended to drum up popular support for preserving LA's beaches-note the date-from Disfigurement, Blight, Erosion, and Pollution. Of particular interest in the context of this catalogue is that Ruth Patricia Shellhorn was the Landscape Architect on the study, which was prepared by Carl C. McElvy. Also of interest, maps of the communities involved: Marina Del Rey, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance. Again the date, more than 60 years ago, is significant. Near-Fine in wraps as issued, with light toning to pages, as might be expected. A unique resource and artifact. Near-Fine/Issued Without Jacket. USD 125.00 [Appr.: EURO 83.5 | £UK 75.25 | JP¥ 11032] Book number: 3547 Click here to order or inquire at Ruggles Books. | ||
| JELLICOE, GEOFFREY Gardens of Europe Blackie & Son. 1937, First Edition. Boards. 134 pages, with many, many black and white plates (half-tones), in three sections: England and Scotland; France, Germany, and Austria; and Italy. A good index follows, which is a help. This is a classic work, not least because of Jellicoe's reading of history and his relation of context to landscape (for example, he suggests that Marie Antoinette was so overwhelmed by the sheer size of Versailles she had to have a little "hamlet" at Trianon). Near-Fine, with previous owner's discreet stamp and a gift inscription to the first free endpaper, some slight sunning to the edges of the front board. Near-Fine/Issued Without Jacket. USD 25.00 [Appr.: EURO 16.75 | £UK 15.25 | JP¥ 2206] Book number: 3832 Click here to order or inquire at Ruggles Books. | ||
| MCGUIRE, DIANE KOSTIAL [EDITOR] Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks Dumbarton Oaks. 1980, First Edition Thus. Soft Cover. The combination of Farrand and Dumbarton Oaks is irresistible-she was one of the founders of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and Dumbarton Oaks is the quintessential American version of a Mediterranean landscape. Illustrated with many black and white photographs and plans, but it is her writing that makes this an essential resource. Fine in softcover as issued. Fine/Issued Without Jacket. USD 20.00 [Appr.: EURO 13.5 | £UK 12.25 | JP¥ 1765] Book number: 3558 Click here to order or inquire at Ruggles Books. | ||
