| BECKER, FRIEDRICH New Gold, Silver, Jewels, Industrial Design By Friedrich Becker of Dusseldorf The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. 1966, First Edition. Stiff Wraps. Catalogue for an exhibition held October 4-19, 1966. In the Introduction, Graham Hughes, the Company's art director, admires Becker's "perfect" workmanship and use of "regular carefully polished stones": "Not for him the romantically natural finish, the casual effects derived from action painting, the delightful rough crystals which are fashionable today," which tells us where the Company was at in the Sixties, as well as something about what was happening to jewelry design and other arts at that time. In addition to Becker's wonderfully sculptural rings and jewelry, there are examples of his tableware and his actual sculpture, including a spectacular metal fountain. All black and white plates (about 45 pages of them), highly suitable. Text in English and German. Near-Fine in stiff wraps with light soiling to corners and page edges.
