	BIBLE The Holy Bible Oxford. 1823. Full Black Leather , 26 x 17cm. Hardcover, Bumping to corners and edges rubbed. Title and decoration on spine gilded, all edges gilt. Inside front hinge loose but still attached/ End-papers are red silk. Earl Cornwallis book plate. Ink inscription records; "Born the second of July 1844 at Linton Place Julia Mann, daughter of James Mann Earl Cornwallis and Julia Countess Cornwallis. She was baptised July 23rd 1844 and received the names Julia Mann, the sponsors were Lady Braybrook, Mrs Williams [of Craig y Don ] and Viscount Campden. This child was vaccinated November 12th 1844. The countess Cornwallis died November 4th 1847. The Earl Corwallis died May 21st 1852. Lady Julia Cornwallis married, August 27th 1862, William Archer Viscount Holmesdale." Title on spine and five bands. Neat and working brass clasp. Solid brass Cross and IHS motif on front cover. Text clean and binding sound. The bible is not dated but there is an ink birthday presentation inscription dated Feb 15th 1882. VG. Contains upwards of twenty thousand notes, critical and Explanatory. Title page headed The Portable Family Bible ? A very decoative Family Register dates back to 1820 and continues to 1941. The spine leather is ragged but title and Scott and Henry clear in gilt. All edges are glt. The fron and back covers are embossed and in reasonable state. NB.
