London: Printed for A. Millar..., 1759. FIRST EDITION. 2 volumes. 4to, pp. viii, 402; iv [403] - 739 [740 adverts], including half-title in each volume, continuous collation and pagination, contemporary speckled calf, black morocco labels. A very good set. With a leaf (D4) from Adam Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) as part of the rear paste-down end-paper in volume 2 Hume's History of England was issued in six quarto volumes between 1754 and 1759. The presence of the leaf as part of the rear paste-down end-paper from the first edition of Smith's TMS, also published by Millar and printed by Strahan, is a bibliographical lagniappe.
