With special press notices on pp. 1 and 2 prior to the frontispiece of a lion mauling a man while another man takes aim at the noble beast. VG- in worn and stained brown decorated cloth with blindstamping, gilt lettering on spine and fraying to the top and bottom of the spine ends. A passable copy of this early book on Livingstone's 16 years' residence in the interior of Africa and a journey from the Cape of Good Hope to Loanda on the west coast, etc.With a magnified drawing of the Teetse Fly on the title page. Why not?

NY. Scribner's. 1890. First Edition with "Copyright 1890 by Charles Scribner's Sons." Printed in 2 vols. VG-/VG- with wear, fraying, and flecking to the spines, light rubbing to the front boards, and a touch of dampstaining at the bottom corners of the frontispieces. Maps (3 total) present in each of the volume's rear pockets. A solid workable set. Vol. two has small piece nibbled at the bottom edge. Original bindings with the dark continent outlined and stamped bright in gilt with title and facsimile of Stanley's signature.
