| COOPER, JAMES FENIMORE. An original check (No. 135) signed by J. Fenimore Cooper on the Otsego County Bark in Cooperstown(NY). Nov. 17th , 1837. A unique signed check with the bank's emblematic eagle carrying an olive branch and what looks like a row of uniform 8's scrolled in black ink at the left-hand edge of the check (playfully done by Cooper while he was waiting in line?). Made out to "Self" for the amount of $10 and 00 cents. A very good plus, lightly worn check signed with partial fading to a few letters in Cooper's signature in brown ink with the PAID stamp at the center of the check. A scarce item.
