It is a biting satire on the methods of the captains of industry. NF/VG+ in clean crisp woven blue cloth stamped brightly in gold on the front boards and the spine. Very clean and tight throughout. In a worn and edge-rubbed brown dustjakacket printed in blue and orange. With creases and tears and chipping to the top and bottom of the spine.

With only the lightest touch of rubbing to the extremities. In a heavily chipped and torn dustjacket, missing two thumbnail-sized pieces at the top and bottom of the front panel. With the original price of "$2.00" and "10 up" at the top of the front inside flap. Name and date in ink on the rear free endpaper.

G+/G+ in woven salmon-colored cloth stamped in blue with long-tailed dragon drawing on the front boards and blue lettering on the spine. In an attractive dustjacket missing two pinky fingernail-sized pieces at the top and side of the spine. Unfortunately, a sharp-toothed cat or puppy chewed through the top of the spine and the dustjacket, leaving perforations at the top corners of the textural pages and the top of the spine and adjacent edges.The jacket has the price of "6s. net" on the inside front flap and a write-up for The Hobbit on the rear panel, including blurbs from the Times Literary Supplement.A difficult Tolkien title to find in dustjacket.

With the Houghton Mifflin colophon (Seated youth playing pipes) on the title page rather than the bowing Hobbit. Bowing Hobbit stamped brightly in red on the front boards. An amazingly bright copy in original oatmeal-colored cloth which is delightfully clean and crisp to the touch. A fine copy in superbly clean beige woven cloth stamped brightly in blue and red on the spine and the front boards which feature the bowing Hobbit in red. The spine is very clean and crisp, and the book appears virtually new and unread, as has been protected all these years by the dustjacket which is now lacking. All illustrations are intact and in sharp register. An astonishingly handsome copy of this Tolkien classic.
