APTOMMAS:  Confidence de Jules Schulhoff
New York, Published by the author. c. 1860's With ornate lettered covers. This piece by Schulhoff was transcribed for the harp by Thomas Thomas (1829-1913) was also a touring harp virtuoso (of Europe between 1851 and 1867 and of America in 1895) who adopted the name Aptommas to avoid the possibility of confusion with his brother. (Nevertheless at least one American Musical Dictionary does confuse them).He settled in New York and published his History of the Harp. Folio size with music. Condition Good.

BOCHSA NICHOLAS C.:  D'albert's Bridal Polka
London Chappell. 1847 With ornate lettered cover arranged for harp and piano forte. Composed by Charles D'Albert (1809-86) who was the son of a French cavalry captain and was the major dance instructor in the middle years in British society. Arranged by Nicolas Charles Bochsa( 1789-1856) was a French born pianist and later a harpist and he studied under Nderman. He was harpist to the Emperor Napoleon, Louis XVlll and also the Duc de Berri. Left France for England in 1817 under a cloud and settled in London and was harpist to Queen Victoria and was professor of harp at the RAM. Chatteron was a pupil. He stole Sir Henry Bishops famous soprano wife Anna Bishop and toured constantly with her then until his death in Australia. Folio size with music. Condition VG.

OBERTHUR CHARLES & RUMMEL J:  Proch's from the Alp the Horn Resounding
London, Ashdown and Parry. C 1860's With an ornate lettered cover . Composed for harp and piano. Charles Oberthur( 1819-95) a German born harpist who settled in London in 1844 and was harpist to the Italian Opera in London. And in 1886 was considered by James D. Brown to be the leading harpist in Britain and on the Continent.. The pianist is probably Josephine Rummel ( 1812-77) who was court pianist at Wiesbaden. Folio size with music. Condition VG.

CHESHIRE JOHN:  Scotch Airs.
London, J.B. Cramer. 1879 With ornate lettered cover. The harpist and composer John Cheshire(1839) was born in Birmingham, studied at the R.A.M. In 1855 was theharpist at the Royal Italian Opera and Principal harpist at Her Majesty's Theatre. Toured many countries and from 1887 lived in America. He has composed an opera, cantatas, overtures and has published many pieces for the harp. This one is designated quite an easy piece. Folio size with music Dated by a music sellers stamp Condition VG.

CHIPP THOMAS PAUL:  The Blue Bells of Scotland
London, Augener . C 1860's With ornate lettered covers. This famous tune arranged for the Harp by Thomas Paul Chipp( no dates) who was a noted harpist and player of the kettle drum. He was the father of the noted English organist and composer Edmund Thomas Chipp((1823-86). Folio size with music. Condition VG .

CHATTERTON J. BALSIR(ARR.)& VERDI:  La Donna E Mobile
London ,Boosey & Co . c 1862 With an very ornate lettered cover . Arranged for the harp by Chatterton and from the 'new' Verdi opera Rigoletto and sung by Mario. who sang this first in 1853 at Covent Garden . John Balser Chatterton (1805-71) was born at Portsmouth and was thus unusually an English harpist (most of the famous British ones have hailed from Wales or Ireland). He became Professor of his instrument at the Royal Academy of Music in 1827, succeeding his teacher Bochsa, and Harpist to Queen Victoria in 1842. He wrote much music for harp especially arrangements of traditional airs of the British Isles. The Welsh Harpist John Thomas succeeded him as harpist to Her Majesty .There is a dated advert of 1862 on back page. Folio size with music. Condition VG .
