PECKET ALEXANDER J.:  The Huntman's Polka.
London ,Jullian & Co .(c1850). With a coloured framed and lettered cover Sadly the composer Pecket, who was a professor of Music and based in Scarborough is not listed in any of the usual sources. He certainly wrote six other pieces for Julien which are all listed on the front cover and five items for the publisher Robert Cocks , usually quadrilles and waltzes. In 1848 Julien ran into financial difficulties and was forced to sell his shop and thereafter his sheets were as Jullian & Co until 1858 when once again finacial problems arose. It is likely that Pecket's material were used by Jullien at his concerts, entertainments and promenades. Folio size with music.Condition VG.

GLEADOW JAMES.:  The Foxhunt Galop.
London , Harry May c 1850. With a monochrome unsigned lithograph cover of the hounds chasing after a fox in the distance and printed by Stannard & Dixon . Sadly the composer James Gleadow is virtually obscure although I have found a J. Gleadow who was a ballet composer and worked at the Theatre Royal Hull in 1840. The publisher Harry May was previously a partner in Monro and May and he set up on his own account between 1848 and 1862. Folio size with music. Condition VG

SMITH JAMES.:  John Peel (Hunting Song).
London ,Hutchings & Romer .1882. arr.by David PENTLAND. With an unsigned full colour lithograph cover of seven red coated huntsmen racing and jumping fences and in the foreground three dogs leading the chase. The original song was by John W. Graves and music by William Metcalfe and first sung in 1869.Perhaps as important was Joseph Simpson's portrait of Peel. This version of the song can be dated through a music sellers stamp dated 1882. James Smith who wrote these amended words was responsible for the collection Poems & Ballads, sadly the arranger Pentland remains obscure. The publishers Hutchings & Romer were only located at that address 1877-84.Folio size with music. Paper strip down spine slightly impeding else conditionVG. Unusual illustrated version of song.

KIKO M.:  John Peel Galop.
London, Hutchings & Romer, Edinburgh Glasgow, Paterson & Sons. C late 1870. With a full colour unsigned lithograph of a hunt crossing a field and jumping a fence with the hounds in the lead. The arranger of this famous song, Kiko has used it's them to compose a Galop Although M.Kiko has another twelve items listed on the back cover that he/she has composed I am afraid that the arranger/composer Kiko remains obscure. The publisher's Hutchings and Romer were at this address from 1866-77 at which point they added another shop and it is likely that the piece was arranged within that period. The only other thought I can offer is that one partner Francis Romer was himself a composer and that perhaps Kiko is Romer?Folio size with music. Condition VG.

The lithographic artist John Brandard (1812-1863) specialised in Waltz,Polka covers and usually worked extensively with Michael and Nicholas Hanhart to produce these opulent sheets, although on this occasion the cover printing was undertaken at D'Almaine's own printing works. WILLIAMS WILLIAM.:  The Hunting Day Song.

The composer may be Wm Langton Williams(1832-96) usually known as Langton Williams the composer was also William Langton Williams the music publisher. Or more likely he is a local composer and he has dedicated the song to the North Warwickshire Hunt and this is a small Birmingham music publishing firm. The composer has initialed the piece in ink. GRAVES JOHN WOODCOCK & METCALFE WILLIAM.:  D'ye Ken John Peel.
London J.B. Cramer c 1870's. With a monochrome ornate lettered cover of mainly titles. There is an iside explanation and background notes on the origin of the song including a note that John Peel died in 1854 at the age of 78 and the tune of Bonnie Annie upon which it seems the tune may well be based. . The original song was by John W. Graves and music by William Metcalfe and first sung in 1869 and I have every reason to believe that this may be a 1st edition. It is certainly Number 1 in a series of Songs & Ballads of Cumberland and this version was sung by William Metcalfe of Carlisle at the Annual Dinnner of the Cumberland Benevolent Institution, London and according to The Druid and the editor of the The Field that this is the genuine copy of both words & music. Folio size with music. Slight foxing on cover else condition Good.
