BEAUMONT CYRIL W. & SITWELL SACHEVERELL.:  The Romantic Ballet in Lithographs of the Time.
Faber & Faber, London, 1938. Hard Cover. First edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 316pp including index. b/w and colour illustrations. Pages uncut. Dust jacket is now bound in mylar. Price clipped. 141pp of text followed by 81pp of plates of the great dancers of the 1840-50's. Effectively a catalogue 'raisonne' of rare ballet lithographs of dancers of the period, beautifully illustrated in colour. Whilst scarce in itself , this copy was previously owned and signed by the noted Australian choreographer and ballet dancer Rex Reid (1924-2000). Rex Reid learnt dancing in Adelaide before travelling to London in 1938 for further study there. He danced professionally in England and Europe with several companies including the International Ballet, London Ballet and Ballet Rambert, and also performed in West End revues. He rejoined Ballet Rambert for its 1947-49 tour to Australia. When the Rambert company returned to Australia, Reid stayed on and helped establish the National Theatre Ballet Company, for whom he choreographed several works including, notably, Corroboree to the score by John Antill . . Book Condition: Good+. Dust Jacket slightly worn and missing on top of spine edges else Good A heavy book so extra postage may be required. Scarce .
