Norwood ,S.A. M. Keogh .c1915. With a full colour cover with the Australian flag and the red titles in frames of blue and the lyric writers signature in red. Essentially a local attempt to describe the battle of Gallipoli from an Australian standpoint. The authors also wrote the Small Still Voice also for Keogh.Folio size with music. Condition very good. Rare South Australian song.

HEWITT S.D.:  Australia's Boys in Khaki & Blue .
Melbourne, Dinsdale's .1916. With a monochrome front cover including a review from the press and also a large portrait of the composer and promoter of the song Sergeant S.D. Hewitt of the 3rd Batt., 1st Inf. Brigade NSW and wounded member of the Australian Imperial Forces (AIF). He had the song printed and published by Dinsdales but so that he could promote and sell it and he also wrote The Kaiser's Boast.Folio size with music. Condition VG.

ABBOTT HAL D. & ARTHUR W.:  Perfect Peace Waltz.
Melbourne The Dunheved Publishing Co 1918. With a blue lettered cover including titles set in a frame of bluebell flowers and two inset photographs of the composers Abbott, both in A.I.F. uniform and with wattle blossoms at head and foot of the portraits. Hal Abbott wrote for I love But You also for Dunheved Publishing and this waltz is based upon the song 'Neath the Light of a Perfect Peace probably written by the brothers.. The brothers appeared to have written My Own Land with a Chas. J. Scott, which Dunheved published in New Zealand around the last year of the war.Condition VG.

SOUTER C.H. & MACCARTHY C.W.:  The Toast Is Anzac Gentlemen !
Sydney W.J. Deane & Son. c 1918 . With a red and black lettered cover.Souter the lyricist seems to have come from South Australia. . Souter was a general practitioner from the mallee country in South Australia & was an established writer of fiction & verse. MacCarthy was an Irish doctor who emigrated to Sydney in 1884 & established an extensive practice in Elizabeth Street,according to one source. This sheet music was published for the benefit of the Returned Soldiers Association of New South Wales and on the back the information lists that it was formed in 1915. Folio size with music.Some tape strengthening to spine and somewhat worn along outer edge else fair/good.

Melbourne E.W. Cole 1914. Lettered front cover with the Royal coat of Arms above the title. First published by lawrence Wright in London and re-published by the Coles Book Arcade company of E.W. Cole. It has verses and chorus and an optional mid song recitation. Half the profits of the first 10,000 were to go to a local National Relief fund.Folio size with music.Condition VG.

RULE HERBERT:  Some Hearts Will Be Joyful
Melbourne, Dinsdale's c 1917. With a red and blue coloured cover and the main title in blue and white and with a full length photograph by Talma of the performer Marshall Crosby who sang this song on the Australian music hall circuit run by Harry Rickards. The songwriter Herbert Rule(1884-1927) has a list at least 4 other songs published by Dinsdales and listed on the front cover and he wrote a further 17 songs according to Kilgarriff including From Poverty Street to Golden Square, Who Put the Bricks in Brixton and The Queen of the Cannibal Isle usually with a partner but occasionally as in this case both words and music. Folio size with music. A little worn along bottom edge and repaired tear no more than 2 inches up from bottom and tape along spine else Fair/ Good.

An early attempt to ensure that the ANZAC troops remained dear to the country's heart. This edition is the 4th and so it could well have been a most popular song.Folio size with music. HARRIS S.M.:  The Awakening.
Perth. (W.A.), S.T. Upham Printers. c 1916. Blue lettered cover with a small illustration of a swan swimming on a river. The piece by a local composer was dedicated to Sergeant H.L. Parry of the First West Australian Contingent A.I.E.F 1914 and no doubt composed and titled to arouse West Australians to the looming War. Folio size with music. Condition Good/VG. Purchased in Franklin Tasmania. Rare publisher.

W.J. Deane & Son. 1916. 4pp. Col illus. to cover of a sunset over a lake or river The composer Bert Rache wrote music for many of the major Brass bands during the early years of the century and also popular songs for the likes of Peter Dawson. This sheet is particular significant as it is signed in pencil by the lyric writer Pte. Harley Cohen, 'Gallipoli Brother'. Condition VG.

STONEHAM REG.:  Back Home.
Melbourne , Loebel & Co c 1918. With a colour lithograph of a flotilla of passenger ships steaming along and showing the Australian flag. Dedicated to the Gallant Anzacs. Stoneham also wrote The Heroes of the Dardanelles and For God & St George and On the Cocos Coast for this publisher then after the war wrote many songs and dance music until the late 1920's and according to Frank Van Straten in his excellent book on the Tivoli , Reg Stoneham provided the music to Australia's first home bred musical Comedy, FFF in August 1920, sadly it had only short runs in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth before disappearing. Folio size with music. Condition VG.

DARWIN WILLIAM & MICHELL GUY.:  Our Glorious Dead .
Melbourne , Self published. 1921. With a monochrome cover printed by Aird & Coghill of Glasgow of a memorial to the soldiers who died and also a photograph of the lyric writer William Darwin of Melbourne Victoria, who was a returned ANZAC and also his author's representative F.J. Williams of Tasmania who was also a returned ANZAC is pictured Sadly the composer Guy Michel remains obscure .Darwin who served in the 7th Battalion 1st Australian Division wrote a number of songs Including Anzacs Well done in 1918 and which went to a 30th edition. Seemingly he then produced, Just a Sprig of Golden Wattle, For the Dawn of the Glad Tomorrow and Hurrah for the Land of the Wattle and set up a Glasgow connection and made all the songs available to retail outlets, from his home in East Brunswick. He also sent copies of this song to several notable people in both Australia and Britain. Folio size with music. Condition VG. Rare.
