The composer remains obscure though the lyric writer is Bishop Heber of Calcutta who also wrote that most popular missionary hymn -- From Greenland's Icy Mountains, first performed on Whitsunday, 1819. Engraved by G.W. Quidor. .According to Dichter & Shapiro the publishers Dubois & Bacon only a partnership between 1835-8 hence the date of this sheet. Somewhat foxed outside of the music else Good

SIMMONDS JAMES & THOMAS J.R.:  Pleasant Memories.
New York, Wm. Hall 1860. With an ornate lettered titles and minor illustrative designs by W.H. Leeson. The lyric writer remains obscure, however, John Rogers Thomas(1829-96) had a long history of successful song writing. A Welsh opera singer and composer was responsible for hundreds of tunes including some notable hymns. His most famous song was probably Beautiful Isle of the Sea. He was also a talented baritone vocalist. He migrated to America in the 1860's and there produced several church music pieces and some hymns. In the 1870's he wrote an operetta.Folio with music. BISHOP ANNA MADAME:  Mexican Polka
Philadelphia, A Fiot .1850. 3pages of music including a 1/3pp ornate lettered titles. Apparently composed by the noted Madame Anna Bishop(1810-84) probably one of the most notable opera singers to have visited America and during a period in her life when she was touring across the Americas, Australia and beyond almost continuously. She was the estranged wife of Henry Bishop who wrote Home Sweet Home. It is possible that a front titles sheet from this piece has become detached and lost, though the music is complete .Rare. Condition VG

New York ,C.E. Horn. 1840. Ornate lettered titles +5pp of music. Plate number 161 Sung by the noted English tenor John Braham (1777-1856) This became a very famous song and was much sung for many years in the many pantomimes throughout Britain whenever there was a bass voiced demon king, pirate king or general evil adversary.The composer publisher Charles Edward Horn This is a first edition of the song. Peters of Louisville from the publishing family of Peters but sadly that is only a guess. The publisher James L. Hewitt was supposed to have started business in New York in 1830 and was located at this address between 1830-35. Condition water stain across outer edge to centre else condition Good.

The song is from the Opera NourJahad written by Loder & Arnold and first produced in London in 1834.According to Dichter & Shapiro the publishers E. Riley & Co were only know at this address between 1836-42. Condition VG.

GLOVER STEPHEN & REV. REYNELL & JEFFERYS CHARLES .:  Faith, Hope & Charity.
New York, Wm. Hall .c 1850's . Ornate ½ page ornate titles + 9pp of music. Three songs which together here are called The Christian Graces . Faith was written by the Rev. Reynell and the two other lyrics by Jefferys. Glover (1813-1870) who wrote upwards of 1,500 compositions, was also noted for his marches at the time of the Crimean War and as well as Alma and Sebastopol Marches. He wrote the Prince Albert Band March, which in 1851 sold 98,000.He also turned his hand to matter spiritual too as in this case. Glover's songs were usually published by the lyricist/publisher Charles Jefferys(1807-65) who wrote the lyrics to many notable songs such as Mary of Argyle but his most lasting song is Rose of Allandale. He began his music publishing business in 1835.The American publisher Hall was at this address between 1848-58. Condition VG.
