VIOTTI J.B.:  9th Concerto
Paris, Sieber of Rue St Honore entre la Rue D'Orleans. (1791). For Principal violin (7pp),1st(5pp) & 2nd(5pp) Violins,1st & 2nd Flutes(3pp),1st & 2nd Oboe(3pp). Missing would appear to be only the alto & bass parts.Jean Baptiste Viotti 1753-1824 is considered by Groves to be the founder of the modern school of violin playing. Born in Italy he made a local reputation and then by 1782 he performed in Paris and by 1783 was considered the greatest violinist of his day however he then decided to retire, though still playing with other musicians. He was awarded a pension by Marie Antoinette and during the French revolution left Paris on the eve of the King's arrest in 1792. By 1793 he was playing again in London. By 1798 he was compelled to leave England. He returned in 1801 and by 1803 the financial difficulties that would adversely affect him until his death in 1824 were upon him. . Signed on the principal Violinist part by the French publisher Sieber(1734-1822), who according to Hopkinson( Dictionary Of Parisian Music Publishers) was only at that precise address between 1790-1.Condition ranges from Very good to good, three parts have water stain not affecting . DIBDIN CHARLES.:  The Dream.
London, Dibdin's Music Warehouse. c. 1792-6. ¼ page of titles and 2 ¾ pages of words and music including a version for two flutes. The Dream was composed and sung by Dibdin for his entertainment The Will of the Wisp in 1792. Charles Dibdin (1745-1814) was an actor, first in Birmingham and Richmond before joining Isaac Bickerstaaff in London, as a composer and singer in 1765. In 1788 he began his very famous monodramas comprising many of his songs to illustrate his theme. Between 1790 and 1810 at several addresses, he also ran his music selling business, in this case he was opposite the Adelphi between 1790-6. The music has a strengthening strip of stiff paper running down the spine edge which in no way affects the music , else condition VG. The music is signed in ink by Dibdin. Rare.

The Poet to his Pen was composed and sung by Dibdin for his entertainment called Most Votes in 1802. In 1788 he began his very famous monodramas comprising many of his songs to illustrate his theme. NO COMPOSER.(JOHN ABRAHAM FISHER):  The Lapland Duet from Harlequins Museum.
London, Longman & Broderip . 1782-98. ½ page ornate lettered titles. Originally performed as Harlequin's Museum, or Mother Shipton Triumphant on 20.12.1792 London. composed by John Abraham Fisher (1744 - 1806) who began working as a violinist in London theatre orchestras, making his debut at the King's Theatre on 25 January 1765. He became attached to the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, in 1767 where, in addition to composing incidental music, he led the orchestra during the period 1769-1778. Fisher's theatrical music enjoyed considerable success. Fisher had a stormy marriage with Nancy Storace( 1766-1817). The Harlequin Museum had additional music by William Shield(1748-1829) English composer of operas originally lived in South Shields but worked his way south through his musical skills until by 1778 he had the Flitch of Bacon produced at the Haymarket Theatre and for the next 13 years he was composer to Covent Garden Theatre.The again from 1792-7 . This Lapland duet sung by Mrs Martyr & Miss Broadhurst. Condition VG .

Maria Hester Parke (1775-1822) began singing in 1790 and in 1797 married and became Mrs Beardmore and as she was still known as Parke that assists in dating this piece . 3 pp + covers folio set for voice,1st & 2nd flute, 1st & 2nd violin harp or pianoforte . Dublin, H. Mountain.1790-94. ¼ page lettered titles plus 1 ¾ pp of music. From The Surrender of Calais: a play, in three acts by George Colman, Jun. as performed at the LittleTheatre,Haymarket in 1791. George Colman (1762-1836). Music composed by Dr. Samuel Arnold (1740-1802) who bought Marylebone Pleasure Gardens though he retired from that having lost money after ten years. He was composer to Covent Garden and wrote The Maid of The Mill in 1765 followed by over 40 operas until 1802. Additionally wrote songs, glees, ballads, oratorios and church music. Sung by Mrs Bland . Maria Theresa Bland (1769-1838) sang from 1782 until 1824 both at the principal theatres and was a particular favourite at Vauxhall Gardens. The publisher Henry Mountain was a violinistand music publisher in Dublin from 1784-94 but only at this address 1790-4.Condition VG.

CAREY HENRY.:  Montague Walk.
London, unknown publisher. c 1750 . single sheet Typeset song with three verses and also a version for the flute. Written by the noted English composer Henry Carey (1670-1743) and the natural son of the Marquis of Halifax who it is reputed committed suicide. Chiefly remembered as the composer of Sally in Our Alley but who wrote many theatrical and musical works mainly between 1715 and 1740.There is even a tenuous case for him having written the melody of God Save the Queen.One page folio set for voice and harpsichord( with figured bass).A piece missing each of the two vertical edges though not affecting music or text else Condition Good.

Edinburgh ,J.Hamilton c late 1790's. 1/3 page ornate lettered titles and 2 1/3 pages of music . The arranger of these variations on a noted Scottish song was the organist at Aberdeen , John Ross(1763-1837) Born in Newcastle he became the organist in Aberdeen's St Paul's in 1783 and indeed he died in Aberdeen He wrote many concertos, sonatas adapted a collection of Scottish airs for voice in 1792. He also composed a number of songs both Scots and English in content. The publisher John Hamilton commenced business in 1795 until about 1810. Condition VG.

This is probably the English organist and composer John Randall( 1715-99) who composed odes, chants and a collections of Tunes which were published as late as 1794. He became Professor of Music at Cambridge in 1755. Condition VG

LEVERIDGE RICHARD.:  Barbarini's Minuet.
London , Publisher Unknown. C 1750. Single page with a separate version at the bottom set for flute. Set in 3/8 time . Richard Leveridge(1670 - 1758) English bass singer and composer. In 1695 Leveridge became the leading bass singer in the company with which Henry Purcell worked, playing roles such as the magician Ismeron in The Indian Queen, in which he sang the major aria "Ye twice ten hundred deities." He composed over 150 songs, and is best known for the patriotic ballad "The Roast Beef of Old England and formally retired from singing 1751. two small nips on two corners and a small piece missing along spine none to any effect else VG.
