| SINCLAIR CHARLES: The Pretty Pussy Waltzes. London J. Bath c 1874. With a marvellous angelic looking tabby cat on the cover by the only English female lithographic artist Louisa Corbaux .With the line below ' So fond of listening to those dear little birds'. Corbaux had a style of portraying wide eyed innocence that was all her own and so she was particularly adept at innocent children and as here cats, though I'm not entirely convinced that the cat would stop at just listening to the birds. Louisa( born 1808) and her artist sister Fanny (1812-1883) worked on an edition of Lallah Rookh in 1837. George Baxter used Fanny's work and she has a notable piece hanging in the National Portrait Gallery. Sadly the composer Charles Sinclair remains obscure. There were two J. | GODFREY DAN.: Little Nell Waltz. London, Chappell & Co. c early 1880's. With a colour lithograph oval, with a young girl walking along a wooded path with an old man by her side and linking her arm. He was at the time of this sheet already Bandmaster of the Grenadier Guards. Ihad imagined this to be connected to Dickens 's Little Nell but in fact it is based on Linley's songs and I assume this is George Linley (1798-1865). Originally born in Leeds and moved to London as young man. He wrote some of the most popular drawing room lyrics of the mid 19th century-Ever of Love of Thee,I cannot mind my Wheel, Mother. He wrote several operas between 1850-65 and later books of Nursery Rhymes and Hymn Tunes and in fact the song Little Nell..
