Two volumes in one containing a Latin dictionary/lexion giving the meanings of Latin words in English, and a English-Latin lexicon giving the meanings of English words into Latin. 1003 pages, 318 pages. Volume 1 also contains a catalogue of Roman authors, as well as an account of reckoning of time by the Romans. Bound in full brownish leather with diamond decorations in blind on the covers, four raised bands on the spine and title in a rectangular black leather patch on the spine. In FAIR condition. Moderate soiling and staining to the covers. The staining appears to from black ink spills. Moderate to heavy scuffing to the covers, especially along the extremities and to the rear cover, where there are several deep scuff marks in the leather. Uneven fading and darkening. Binding starting at the inner front hinge but is still intact. Text block is intact and solid, with the first signature (blank endpaper to the preface) starting to become detached along the upper hinge. Pages in general have uneven fading and minor sporadic soiling throughout, with a very faint dampstain in the very upper margin of the first 60 pages and a more noticeable dampstain in the upper margin of the last several pages, although nothing that affects the text. Blank front free endpaper wrinkled and creased with a previous owner's signature and writing in ink, as well as an ownership notation on the last page of the text. Last free endpaper also very wrinkled and worn. Solid working copy of this book, with somewhat heavy wear to the covers, in FAIR condition. Fair/No Jacket. Volume one contains a linguistic anaylsis of Old Church Slavonic including vowels, declensions of nouns, formations and patternization of the various words (nouns, verbs, adjectives) and also contains a subject and word index. Volume two contains Old Church Slavonic texts including the Codices Zographensis, Marianus, Assemanianus, Ostromir's Gospel-Book, the Prague fragments, the Freising texts and others. Both volumes in GOOD+ condition. Bookplates present on the interior indicate these may have been from Dartmouth College's Dept. of Russian but there are no other indications of ex-library status. These bookplates also note they were from the collection of David E. Wilbur, who may have been a scholar/professor in this area of study. Minor annotations to the text in pencil in both volumes. Minor soiling, rubbing and edgewear to the jackets. Extremities darkened along both jackets. Minor chipping, a few small tears and some scuffing along the jacket extremities, more so to volume 1. Spines sun darkened. Volume 1 dust jacket price clipped. Very minor fading and edgewear to the books themselves. Inner texts clean and solid, with the aforementioned annotations present. Volume 1 has some wear to the upper margin (including minor rust stain) from a paper clip(now removed). Solid copies of these two volumes in GOOD+ condition. Good/Good. A linguistic, etymological study of Indo-Germanic languages with comparisons to Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, Lithuanian and Gothic. An early work of historical and comparative linguistics examining the vast roots of Indo European languages. EX-LIBRARY in FAIR/GOOD condition. Leather binding split along the hinges, with some chipping and flaking to the leather and 1 ½ inches of the backstrip missing fromt the head. Leather generally scuffed and worn with remains of library call letters faintly present. Some scuffing to the extremities with the corners bumped and worn. Binding is solid but slightly weakened, with library bookplate on the inside front cover and library stamp on title page. No other library markings present. Text block solid and tight with general darkening to the pages. Page 218 dog-eared. Solid copy of this work, ex-library in FAIR/GOOD condition. Fair/No Jacket.
