DE BROKE, LORD WILLOUGHBY  Hunting the Fox
Boston, Houghton Mifflin. 1921. Hard Cover. Perhaps a first American edition as it bears the date on the title page, but there is no info at all on what should be the copyright page. This book describes in detail various methods of fox hunting, including management of the hounds as well as horsemanship. 137 pages. Hardcover. With a few black and white sketches in the text illustrating various formations used in fox hunting. In GOOD condition. Heavy scuffing to the front cover, with moderate uneven darkening. Light soiling, scuffing and darkening to the back cover. Spine sun darkened with the paper title label scuffed, darkened and chipped. Minor pulling. Heavy scuffing and bumping to the extremities with the corners bumped and worn. Inner text clean and solid. Still an attractive work in GOOD condition. Good/No Jacket.

New York, Stringer and Townsend. 1849. Hard Cover. Early printing of this work with the American Elk frontispiece. Several other illustrations present in the text. This classic hunting text covers wild fowl, fowl shooting on Long Island, Chesapeake Bay shooting, the bison, the elk, the moose, caribou, antelope, grizzly bear, prairie sports, turkey shooting and many other topics. Also included are several appendices, one covering fish and fishing in North America. In GOOD condition with moderate scuffing to the covers, especially noticeable to the rear cover. Light fading and soiling. Corners bumped and frayed. Spine pulled and frayed. Cloth beginning to split along the top rear backstrip. Binding is solid as is the text block. Minor to moderate foxing throughout the text, especially to the first several pages. Faint semicircle dampstain present to the top margin of the pages, just touching the text that shrinks and disappears by the middle of the book. Solid copy of this work in GOOD condition. Good/No Jacket.

Printed by Joseph Rogerson. In original wraps, with a cover illustration of a hunter with his rifle and dog, as well as several game animals. 52 numbered pages plus several unnumbered index pages and several unnumbered pages of ads in the rear. This volume offers tales and advice on hunting and fishing, as well items on horse racing, many articles on hunting with hounds, an article on hunting in Canada, on hunting tiger, and hunting in the Orient, etc. It also contains a list of winning horses for the year 1836. This magazine continued the magazine 'The Sportsman and Veterinary Recorder' and was replaced with New sporting magazine, Sporting review, and from July 1846, Sporting magazine [British Library records]. This volume lacks the one illustrated plate and has a two by 2 ½ inch piece cut out of an article on page 39/40 and a 2 ½ inch by 7 inch column cut out on page 41/42. In POOR/FAIR condition. Minor soiling to the covers. Moderate to heavy fading and scuffing. Heavy tattering to the extremities including the spine and the pages of the magazine themselves. Several small chips and tears present to the covers. Cover is DETACHED from the text. The text block is saddle stitched and is weak but still intact. Text is clean with minor darkening to the pages. The pages of ads in the rear are unopened. A rather hard to find hunting journal in POOR/FAIR condition. Photos available upon request. Poor.
