Text clean and tight save for an asterisk in pencil next to the our rural divinity entry in the table of contents and a list of birds on last endpages in pencil. With illustrations of the homes as well as the poets. Title in gilt with red decorations in blind on the front cover and spine. In GOOD condition. Minor soiling, fading and scuffing to the covers. Some scuffing to the extremities. Moderate foxing to the first and last few pages, with minor foxing and darkening throughout. Both the frontis illustration and the illustration were detached and have been tipped in with archival glue. Solid in GOOD condition. Good/No Jacket.

Inner text solid with some sporadic vertical pencil lines in the margins next to various passages, apparently to illustrate their significance. Front free endpage has some writing in pencil that was erased but is still noticeable. Small 1 ½ inch square sticker on inside front cover. A charming copy of this work in GOOD+ condition. This particular volume has TWO jackets, perhaps a mistake in the publishing process. A classic work by Mailer containing the interesting essay on cultural relations in the US titled "The White Negro." Also included are many short stories and other essays including some informative reviews of Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot." One jacket is in GOOD condition, while the one beneath is in VERY GOOD condition. The book is also in VERY GOOD condition. The jacket in good condition has minor to moderate soiling and darkening. Some scuffing is present, especially along the extremities. Some small chips and tears to this jacket along the spine and the rear panel. The jacket in VERY GOOD condition has some minor general darkening and scuffing. Light edgewear with minor pulling/chipping to the spine and a small tear along the lower rear edge. The book itself has minor soiling, rubbing and light fading. Minor soiling along the top page edges. Text is clean and solid with light toning to the pages.
