Playbill for this revival staging of the play Private Lives by Noel Coward. The play originally premiered in the UK in 1930, and starred Noel Coward. It also had a brief run on Broadway, with Noel Coward, prior to the 1948 Broadway run that starred Tallulah Bankhead. Usual playbill fare, being mostly ads, with some biographies of the stars. GOOD condition. Wrappers toned and wrinkled, with a few small dampstains. Minor creasing present. Good .

Li, Xiii, 248; x, 288; ix, 317 pp. LACKING the illustration of the Old Drury Lane Theatre, a portrait of Shakespeare and an original letter of Sheridan in volume 3 (although this may be bound in at the end of volume 2). All other illustrations present as called for, with the frontis illustrations in volumes 1 and 2 bound in a bit further on. A collection of short anecdotes reflecting on the history or theater, commenting on notable actors, playwrights, plays, performances, etc. from ancient to the then present. With commentary on Shakespeare, brief mention of American theater, Harry Rowe, John Palmer, a riot at the Haymarket Theater, Chinese play, customs of the French theater, Charlotte Cibber, etc. GOOD condition, lacking the aforementioned plates. Leather rather scuffed along the hinges, with minor scuffing along the extremities and to the covers. Minor fading. Interiors solid, with some toning and scattered foxing, a bit heavier to the title pages and plates. A few pages cropped a bit shorter than others. Armorial bookplates of Roderick Terry present in each volume. Good/No Jacket.

New York, Privately Printed, 1922. Soft Cover. Cardboard stock covers in brown printed paper wraps (adhered to the covers). Folio. 173 pp. With a section of 28 photo plates. SIGNED, with an inscription, by David Belasco, and dated 1927. With another gift inscription present from the recipient to Craig (Timberlake, an American stage actor). A privately issued work commemorating the 1922 production of the Merchant of Venice, providing Belasco's commentary on the play, the cast of characters, photo plates, and tributes. David Belasco was an American theatrical producer, as well as a playwright and director. He was influential in American stage design, and used emerging technology to create state of the art theaters in New York (see Wikipedia). GOOD condition. A large chip missing from the lower front wrap, with a smaller chip, also missing at the lower center edge of the same wrap. Mostly minor chipping, creasing and tearing along the wrappers. Minor soiling and toning. Previous owner's large decorative bookplate on the inside front cover. Text solid, with minor toning. Good .

A theater program for a production of Debussy's opera Pelleas and Melisande, featuring black and white photos of cast members. Of note is the cover illustration by Pierre Brissaud featuring a black and white silhouette of the orchestra at the bottom and two actors and the stage done in apparent gilt style coloring, with black and white shading. In FAIR condition with dampstaining evident along the cover extremities, affecting the lower ¼ of the last half of the booklet. Moderate darkening and general fading to the covers. Minor to moderate soiling to the rear cover. Slight creasing and minor edgewear. General fading to the interior with minor scattered soiling. Nice cover art by Pierre Brissaud. A flier advertising the play, "The Brig," by Kenneth Brown and first staged at the Living Theatre in 1963. The play, an antiauthoritarian work based on Brown's experiences incarcerated while in the Marines, won an Obie Award. The Living Theatre is a long running theater company known for its efforts to make theater less commercial and more community based. GOOD condition. Several chips and tears along the extremities, with the tip of the lower left corner torn off. Minor toning and wrinkling. Good .
