A major exhibition on a pioneer of design in Mexico, Clara Porset (b. Cuba, studied in the U.S., moved to Mexico in 1936-d. 1981). To her, Mexican forms which changed as needed would always be beautiful. The fact that her designs were often mass-produced rather than one-of-a-kind pieces was one of her assets: she brought art to many people. Porset's ongoing relationship with different members of the Bauhaus movement kept her in touch with the cutting edge of modern design. In 1940 she accepted an invitation to participate in the Organic Design for Home Furnishing contest held by MOMA in New York, obtaining one of the four prizes. One of her most noted furniture designs "evolved butaqaue" drew commissions for furniture designs from the most representative architects from the 1940s to the 1960s.
