The first edition was by Felipe de Zúñiga y Ontiveros in 1792. This 2nd edition includes notes by Carlos Maria Bustamante and a biography of the author and is augmented with unpublished texts by Gama in response to scientist José Antonio Alzate y Ramirez whose severe criticism challenging and discrediting the author's archaeological findings and descriptions were published in the "Gaceta de México" on the 26 of June, 1792.
