| HOUSE, HOMER D. [DOLIVER]. Wild Flowers of New York in Two Parts: State Museum Memoir 15 [Two Volumes]. Albany: The University of the State of New York, 1918. 362 pp. + Plates [264]. 4to. Cloth (hardback). First edition. Illus. with 264 plates (mostly color). Extremeties rubbed, Volume II faint dampstain to lower margin not affecting illustrations; endpapers foxed, pencilled notations to free front end paper; still about very good. Â ¶ Homer Doliver House (1878-1949) was State Botanist from 1914-1948. Many consider Dr. House's greatest contribution to be this beautifully illustrated two volume set. An experimental printing of four plates was made in the Report of 1915. The full text and 264 quarto plates printed in a four-clor process was published in 1918 as Memoir 15 of the State Museum. The term 'wild flowers' reffered mainly to the conspicuous-flowered herbs. The beautiful natural color plates had the effect of setting the standard of excellence for many flower books that were to follow. The common and scientific name of each plant is provided.
