Caldwell Idaho, The Claxton Printers Ltd. 1945, First Thus. Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Red cloth, 156pp. Frontis portrait of Shelly's Beatrice. This is the text of a staged version of Shelly play which was staged in Bellingham WA by the Bellingham Theatre Guild in March of 1940. The play had been considered "a closet drama" because many thought that it was unstageable and others did not like its theme of incest. There is an introduction which outlines the play's hostory on the stage--there were only 5 or 6 previous perfomances, several of which were private. The Bellingham production was the second staging of the play in the US. Hicks was Chairman of the english department at the (USA) Western Washington College of Education and Clarke was the Play Director of the Bellingham Theatre Guild. INSCRIBED BY Arthur C. Hicks on the endpaper: "To-------/ with best regards and / gratitude for moral support/ in the production of The Cenci/`Arthur C. Hicks". The endpaper also bears the signature of Keith A. Murray who taught English at Western Washington College. VG in Unclipped Good only Dj with some chipping at the spine extremities, with the spine panel faded slightly. Dj is in mylar sleeve.
