| HAMILTON JENKIN A.K. Mines and Miners of Cornwall IX Padstow, St Columb And Bodmin Truro Bookshop, U.K. 1964. First Edition, Card Covers. Very Good/No Jacket. 59 pages, size 8.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches in card covers. ' As an author A. K. HAMILTON JENKIN needs no introduction. "The Cornish Miner" (Alien & Unwin 1927), "News from Cornwall" (Westaway 1951) and other books on the county have established him as the leading historian today on the subject of Cornish mining. After a lifetime's study of the mines and miners of the South West, he has concentrated during the past fourteen years primarily on research into the lesser known mining ventures of Cornwall, the existence and progress of which can be traced only by a prodigious amount of original and painstaking research; hitherto their history has gone almost entirely unrecorded in the pages of Henwood, Collins, Dines, and other writers. The results of this research are being published in a series of regional parts, each with map and illustrations, which will ultimately cover the whole of the county. These parts, of which this is the ninth, vary in length but are similar in style and layout so that the complete work, estimated to extend to some 1,000 pages, can be shelved as a uniform series, or can be bound into a combined volume. This work will be a major contribution to the published records of Cornish mining history and will be of importance also in wider fields - in the general history of Cornwall and in the history of metalliferous mining in Great Britain .' Book - in Very Good grey card covers with black lettering - some sunning to the grey background colouring to the back cover but the lettering remains bright and distinct, light creasing to the extreme corners, extreme edges and and light browning to the very extreme top of the spine. Contents, previous owner's small neat label to the title page otherwise clean, bright and tightly bound. One of the Rarer Parts of the Series. Shipped Weight: Under 250 grams. Category: Trade, Electronics, Mining Cornwall Devon Inventory No: 003894. This book is lighter than the average upon which international charges are based and so will be sent Airmail as standard. | MACKENZIE B W Nickel - Canada and the World Mineral Resources Division Department of Energy Mines and Resources Ottawa, Ottawa, 1968. Fine/Near Fine. Mineral Report 16. xi, 176 pages, size 9.75 inches tall by 6.5 inches, with an index in card covers. 'Nickel is essentially a "space-age" metal, although -it has been used in natural alloys since the dawn of civilization. The second half of the 19th century saw the beginning of important developments in nickel, and since then demand for it has rapidly increased, particularly within the last decade, when-the world nickel industry has seen marked expansion. Although in the initial chapters of "Nickel - Canada and the World" the author outlines technical aspects of the industry, such as geology, exploration, mining and processing, primary emphasis is placed on economic aspects. Reserves of nickel and the resource base are stressed, as are commercial forms of the metal and their uses. The author has highlighted corporate history, operations and developments in Canada and abroad, the role of nickel in the Canadian economy, and world supply and demand. Grateful acknowledgment is made to The International Nickel Company of Canada, Limited, Falconbridge Nickel Mines, Limited, Sherritt Gordon Mines Limited and others for valuable assistance in compiling this volume.
