 - HILL, HOWARD  Wild Adventure
Robert Hale, UK, 1955. First UK Edition, Hardcover (Original Cloth). Near Fine ( Better Than Very Good)/Very Good. Size: 8.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches. 223 pages. ‘Wild Adventure is unique because Howard Hill is a unique hunter. His hunting is done with the long bow, the camera and the lasso. To do it he must move into close proximity with his quarry in most cases a wild beast, a treacherous reptile or a man-eating fish. That is a very different thing from hunting with a high-powered rifle. Archers the world over acclaim him as the greatest hunter of all time, and know him as the champion of innumerable field-archery contests. He has won 196 tournaments and in twenty-five years of competitive archery he has never been defeated ; an astounding record. Many of his adventures have been with the most dangerous animals in the world and have necessitated perfect execution and well-planned escape. He has roped black bears, captured alive cougars and jaguars, shot sword-fish and played them with rod and reel to which the arrow was attached ; and wearing a diving apparatus of his own design and craftsmanship, has shot a man-eating shark under water. Often his amazing ability with the long bow has saved him from certain death. Wild Adventure is a story of breath-taking experiences. The fact that Howard Hill has survived unscathed is a testimony to his knowledge, his reaction, his iron nerve, his muscular co-ordination and his physical strength and ability. His exploits, adventures and escapes in three continents make armchair travel at its best.’ Book - in Near Fine [better than Very Good] maroon boards with gilt lettering - minor marking to the boards. Contents, light browning to the endpapers and title pages, previous owner's name, light speckling to the extreme page edges otherwise clean, bright and tightly bound. And Others. 76 pages, size 7.25 inches tall by 4.75 inches, in thick card boards with an illustrated front cover and cloth spine. 'It is by request that this little book on trout fishing has been written, and I look upon it as an ABC for the complete beginner. Everything is easy to the man "who knows how, but far from easy for the one who is not familiar even with the general terms one uses in connection with trout fishing. I have, therefore, tried to explain simply, and I hope clearly, the way to learn. KUNARD PROFESSOR R  Book of Card Tricks : For Drawing Room and Stage Entertainments
Bazaar Exchange and Mart Office, U.K.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Undated but appears to be circa 1900.184 pages with an index. Illustrated with black and white line drawings. "PREFACE. In offering this collection of Card Tricks to the public it has been my endeavour to make every particular as clear as possible to the uninitiated. It will readily be granted that practical illustration must be vastly superior to the most carefully-written description of anything- which, at the same time, requires both rapidity and neatness in execution; yet it appears to me that, if in the following pages I have been successful in making the most intricate trick clear in the manner of its manipulation, proper practice for the acquirement of ease and certainty will do the rest. There are a number of tricks which I have purposely omitted, mostly on account of their transparency; but to make up for such deficiency I have introduced others of very considerable merit, and their successful performance cannot fail to draw from any audience an expression of marked satisfaction. In conclusion, I trust many of my readers will carefully practise and follow the instructions g'iven, and attain a high stage of proficiency in the innocent art of Legerdemain. B. KUNARD." MCCORMACK MARK H  World of Professional Golf 1993
Chapmans Publishers, U.K. 1993. First Edition, Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. PLEASE EMAIL FOR SHIPPING RATES. 634 pages, size 9.25 inches tall by 6 inches. Illustrated with coloured photographs. ' Nick Faldo gave a resounding answer in 1992 to the question: Who is the best golfer in the world? Early in the year, Fred Couples staked a claim to the title with three victories including his first major title in the Masters Tournament, but by year's end there was hardly any doubt that Faldo indeed was No. 1. The Englishman made a stirring recovery to win his third British Open, and his fifth major championship, and also had a remarkable string of top-10 finishes that included victories in the Carrolls Irish Open, Scandinavian Masters, GA European Open, Toyota World Match Play Championship and Johnnie Walker World Championship. This is the 27th edition of Mark H. McCormack's golf annual - the most comprehensive record of professional golf ever published. There are chapters on each of the major championships and world tours, scoring summaries of all tournaments, and such compilations as the Sony Ranking and World Money List. This volume includes the following and much more: Tom Kite's determined final round at Pebble Beach to win the U.S. Open ... Nick Price's triumph in the PGA Championship ... The victory of an English team, minus Faldo, in the Alfred Dunhill Cup ... Davis Love III and his remarkable start and finish to the year, including triumphs in The Players Championship and the World Cup, with Couples ... The emergence of a new star in South Africa, Ernie Els ... Masashi (Jumbo) Ozaki and his continued domination of the Japanese Tour... Raymond Floyd's victories on the regular PGA Tour and Senior PGA Tour... Dottie Mochrie's stellar season on the LPGA circuit... Europe's stunning triumph in the Solheim Cup ... Mark O'Meara's run of success at Pebble Beach ... Spaniards Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal winning four tournaments early, but nothing after that... Greg Norman's first victory in over two years at the Canadian Open ... Steve Elkington's victorious home-coming in the Australian Open '. MCCORMACK MARK H  World of Professional Golf 1977
Collins, U.K. 1977. First Edition, Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. PLEASE EMAIL FOR SHIPPING RATES. 563 pages, size 9.25 inches tall by 6.25 inches. Illustrated with black and white plates. ' Mark McCormack begins this year's Annual by asking: What is the best way to win a tournament? By 'being an outright winner, far ahead of the field? Or by coming out top after a tight finish, with a win on the final hole? This, he adds, was the way that three of last year's four major championships were decided. A superb five-iron shot of Pate's took him to the US Open Title on the 72nd hole; Dave Stockton holed a 13-foot putt on the final green to win the PGA; and Johnny Miller produced a closing 66 to shake off his challengers and take the British Open. Such wins were exciting, and certainly gave the crowds reason for cheering. But perhaps the real champion is the golfer who runs away with a tournament, as Ray Floyd did at Augusta National, methodically shooting his way through 72 holes to a record-equalling 271 and an eight-shot victory. Once again Floyd, as he had done at the PGA Dayton in 1969, 'won from the front' - probably the hardest way there is, with all the added pressure of protecting your lead. Thus Mark McCormack's decision to vote Ray Floyd Player of the Year 1976. Elsewhere it was a time of transition. Jack Nicklaus, now beyond the peak of his career, still topped the World Money List - for the sixth time in eleven years - and remained the champion for others to topple. Pate and Crenshaw emerged as the two young players most likely to become future stars, while Hale Irwin continued to get results which make him one of the game's main money-winners, and closest to the Olympian perch occupied by Nicklaus. In Britain and Europe the leading player was also their youngest: the 19-year-old Spaniard Severiano Ballesteros. By the end of the year he had won three European titles and earned himself over $80,000. His play, together with that of fellow countrymen Pinero and Balbuena and the victories of Italy's handsome Baldovino Dassu, overshadowed the lesser exploits of the campaigners from Britain. Such stalwarts as Tony Jacklin, Brian Barnes and Neil Coles had only a single victory each, others like Oosterhuis not even that. Although there are several contenders for the position, Britain has yet to produce a new young star. Among the women pride of place went to Judy Rankin, followed by Donna Young. The glamorous youth brigade was headed by Jan Stephenson, Sally Little, Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley and Laura Baugh, all of whom established themselves in the first flight. As usual. Mark McCormack uses his special vantage-point in the world of golf to record the best moments of the professional game. There are the customary unique statistics, full coverage of the year's tournaments, as well as the best golf photographs of the year '. POOLL A H BATTEN  Some Globe-Trottings With A Rod
Spottiswoode, Ballantyne & Co, U.K. 1937. First Edition, Hard Cover. Good Plus Plus/No Jacket. vi, 123 pages, size 8.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches. ' I wish to emphasise that what has been written in this book is only the impressions of a tourist, and for the most part makes no claim to be anything else. The biology notes deal only with a few of the more common flora and fauna encountered while fishing, or when wandering about the district on off days. So far as the fishing and biology are concerned, it is obvious that the amount of information that it is possible to glean in a single season-and in some cases a very abnormal one at that-must be limited. A boatman employed at a certain lake told me that some years ago a party of biologists arrived to make a study of the trout's food supply; they stayed several weeks, cross-examined him closely, and finally took their departure. Some little time afterwards their report was published in the newspapers, when, to his intense amusement, he found that this consisted almost entirely of what he himself had told them, and very little else besides. Research takes years, not weeks, and one may wonder how much really valuable information is obtained from scientific expeditions of short duration, however amusing these joy-rides may be for the participants '. Chapters I. Yugoslavia II. The South Sea Islands III. New Zealand IV. The Amazon V. Iran (Persia) VI. Russia. Book - in Good Plus blue boards with black lettering - some marking to the boards and sunning to the spine but the lettering remains bright and distinct, light bumping and light rubbing to the extreme corners and light bumping to the extreme ends of the spine. WALTON IZAAK  Complete Angler or the Contemplative Man's Recreation
Adam and Charles Black, U.K. 1937. New Edition, Hard Cover, Illustrated by: Cole Herbert. Near Fine/Very Good. 229 pages, size approximately 6 inches tall by 4 inches. Illustrated with line drawings by Herbert Cole. " We read Walton rather for the charm and fragrance of his writing than for instruction. Charles Lamb recommended the book to Coleridge because, he said, " it breathes the very spirit of innocence, purity, and simplicity of heart; it would sweeten a man's temper at any time to read it." Part of our pleasure is in his quaint directions how and with what baits to fish for " Trouts and Carps, the Chub or Cheven," and the rest. But Walton's chief attraction lies in his quiet philosophies, his infectious love of everything in Nature, his merry dialogues and songs in the honest Alehouse with Peter and Coridon, with the milkwife and Maudlin, in his gift of provoking us to contentment, and in the stateliness of his prose, " full of birds' music, and redolent of dawn." The Compleat Angler may be opened at any page, and is to be read again and again." Book - (would be) Fine if not for three pin prick marks to the front board. Dust Jacket - SEE SCAN - Very Good - small closed tears to edges and slight marking, faint pin prick marks to front of cover which strangely enough only shows through to the verso. Illustrator: Cole Herbert. Shipped Weight: 750gms-1kgm. Category: Sport, Fishing, Hunting, Guns Inventory No: 99911662.
