(ca 1950s?). 14pp, folding colored map, 10 illustrations from photographs in color and monochrome, tables. 8vo/20.5cm. Pictorial wrappers, stapled, light wear, internally fine. A travel brochure of the late 1950s showing aspects of the relatively recently opened tourist area of the scenic Kaghan Valley in the northeast section of the North-West Frontier Province (i.e. Hazara District). The folding map at the front to a scale of 1 inch = 15.78 miles shows some topographic details such as rivers and mountains up to heights of more than seventeen thousand feet. It also gives access and transportation details such as jeep rentals that existed at that time. Printed wrappers, lightly darkened to edges, otherwise VG. The twelve page report signed by L.W. Jardine, Revenue and Divisional Commissioner, N-WFP, is signed 12 July 1940 and relates to some problems existing at that time, particularly concerning the Gujars. It is not known why publication of the report was delayed nearly ten years. Tall 8vo/24.5cm. Original printed wrappers, light soil and fading to edges, internally fine. The Committee consisted of 2 Members of the NWFP Provincial Assembly, Isher Das and Abdul Ghafoor. Their report is dated 9 September 1939, ten years before its publication date. Apparently there were serious grievances, especially concerning the "Begar" or forced labor system, and adjustments were recommended. The delay in publication may indicate political sensitivity of the issues?.
